Toby Ward

Founder and President



The founder and President of Prescient Digital Media, Toby is an internationally recognized and acclaimed expert in the areas of intranets, digital workplace, and social media. A journalist turned communications consultant turned intranet consultant, he is specialist in intranet and digital workplace planning, governance, and measurement, and has led his company to many awards including an illustrious Webby Award. 

Toby has worked with dozens of Fortune 500 and big brand companies including AMC, CBC, HSBC, Harvard Business, RBC Financial, USAA, and dozens more. He is also the founder and chair of the Digital Workplace & Intranet Global Forum conference series held annually in New York (and occasionally Los Angeles). He is also the founder and chief writer at IntranetBlog.com.



In his spare time he's a youth soccer coach, and patron and volunteer of several youth and ecology focused charities including Take A Hike Foundation, Seymour Salmonoid Society, and Boys & Girls Clubs.

Additional highlights include:

  • The first to write and consult on intranet governance (2001)
  • Developed the first-ever intranet specific project methodology (2001)
  • Conducted the first study and wrote the first white paper on intranet ROI (2001)
  • Founded IntranetBlog.com (2004)
  • Founded the Digital Workplace and Intranet Global Forum conferences (2008)
  • The first to formally study and define the “social intranet” (2010) 


Prior to founding Prescient in 2001, Toby was General Manager for Xceed Canada, and the eMedia Team Leader at Bell Canada in the 1990s.
